FAQ - How do I care for the prosthesis
How do I care for the prosthesis?
BREAST FORMS
Body lotion, powder, perfumes and natural body oils can cause a film to form on the inside of your breast form. So your breast form/prosthesis should be washed daily by hand, either in a sink or take it into the shower with you (don't take Amoena Adapt Air into the shower, see below). Wash it with either the Amoena Soft Cleanser, a mild soap or liquid detergent, then rinse in clean water and dry with a soft towel.
When not in use, the breast form should be kept in its original packaging. ABC forms come in a little case, Adapt Air Amoena forms do too - if you have any other form I can order in a case for you (they cost about $20). If you travel a lot this could be handy.
Swim forms should be washed after use as above.
Be aware that sharp and pointed objects (e.g needles, pins, fingernails, brooches, scissors, nail files, rings, pet claws, animal hair) can permanently damage the prosthesis. You may want to consider wearing a leisure form whilst doing certain activities.
It is not recommended to wear a breast form in solariums, saunas, steam baths, spas, hot tubs or when scuba diving.
Avoid direct contact with perfume, hot surfaces (e.g iron, stove top) and hot water.
LEISURE FORMS
The fabric cover can be removed and washed in the washing machine on a delicate cycle or by hand with a mild detergent at a maximum of 30 degrees C. Lay the cover flat to dry - do not place in the tumble dryer.
The foam part can be spot cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not put in the washing machine or place in water. Make sure both foam and cover are completely dry before putting back together.
AMOENA ADAPT AIR BREAST FORMS
Clean as above but ensure that no water enters the valve - pinch it closed with one hand whilst you clean it and rinse it with the other.
AMOENA CONTACT BREAST FORMS
Amoena Contact Forms must be cleaned with the Amoena Soft Cleanser and soft brush that comes with the form. Put a drop of the cleanser on the adhesive surface, moisten the Amoena soft brush with water, then scrub the adhesive surface firmly for some time in circular movements using pressure. Rinse with lukewarm water. Allow to air dry or use a hair dryer on low heat. This must be done every night.
